TWO INJURED IN GARISSA PISTOL ATTACK

Two civilians were injured on Saturday night in a pistol attack by unknown assailants in Garissa town, North-Eastern region bordering the war-scarred Somalia.

The two a man of 26 years and a woman of 22 years were attacked by the armed people who waylaid them, while they were walking toward their homes from the shopping center at 8.30 pm.

Confirming the incident, the North-Eastern criminal investigating department Musa Yego said, the attackers armed with a pistol open fire indiscriminately on the victims, after ambushing them in the darkness of the night as they were heading home from job.

“The assailants armed with two pistols escaped on foot shortly after shooting at the two slightly injuring them. The victims were rushed to hospital by good Samaritans to Garissa referral hospital where they are undergoing treatment” he said.

He said the victims’ sustained injuries on their left legs and stomachs as the attackers pounced on them approaching from the same direction.

Yego added “The attackers who were two men armed with pistols and open fire on the two near the Anti-Shifta (a unit of administration police camp) camp some 3 kilometers from Garissa town.

The regional detective chief said security personnel has been mobilized to pursue the assailants, who immediately after the incident took on foot and disappeared toward a nearby settlements taking the advantage of the darkness.

Two weeks ago unknown people hurled suspected hand grenade to customers at first food kiosk injuring twelve people in the incident.

Garissa County has bore the brunt of terrorism attack since Kenya
troops crossed the border to Somalia.
