SECURITY BARRIERS INCREASED TO CATCH AL-SHABAAB

The government has increased the number of security road blocs along the Mandera-Wajir road as a precautionary measure of stop aliens using the route to access other parts of the country.
The move comes barely five days after 28 passengers were killed by Somali based Islamist militia group, al-Shabaab in a gruesome raid on a Nairobi bound bus traveling from Mandera near Arabia township.
Speaking to the Standard, Mandera East Deputy County Commissioner Elvis Korir said the government has taken a number of preemptive measures aimed at strengthening security and ensuring a repeat of what happened last Saturday is checked.
Korir said the Mandera-Wajir road has become prone to Al-Shabaab attacks hence police and KDF will be patrolling the route on a 24/7 basis to safeguard the safety of Kenyans daily traveling on the road to or from Mandera County.
He said vehicles leaving Mandera town will be escorted by armed police officers when traveling within Mandera County as Al-Shabaab threat remains.
"We will not give our adversaries time to create fear and panic amongst citizens, there aim is to divide Kenyans of diverse culture, religion persuasion and ethnicities along religious/tribal lines and we should not fall into their devil snares, "said Korir.
The administrator asked the youths not to be lured into terrorism or an act of radicalization by people who are engaging in an evil as the government continues cracking down on terror perpetrators, financiers and their sympathizers.
He called on residents to give information that will lead to apprehension of criminals or will assist in preventing criminal activities adding that security starts with a patriotic people who love their wellbeing of their country and people.
Korir asked land lords to protect their tenants by having adequate roll call that will easily detect the sinister motives of those bend on committing crime and should also keep away non tenants making to their plots.
"Non local residents are complaining that their houses are being marked for persecution, but I want to confirm that these are unfound rumors, the government is in full control, "he assured.
On Tuesday a peace public Baraza was held in Mandera to end speculations that has led over 300 civil servants to camp at the local military camp for fear of their safety.

The government has rejected request by non residents families to evacuated by the state out of insecurity prone County saying that doing so amount to surrendering into al-Shabaab plot of creating despondency among Kenyans and instead said security will be beefed up to ensure no more soul will be lost at the hands of criminals.
