STORMY SESSION TO DEBATE ON RECRUITMENT OF CLERK ADJOURNED 3 TIME

BY ADOW JUBAT

Heavily armed security officers cordon off Garissa County assembly compound and it’s environ on Thursday afternoon as members of the County assembly bitterly divided on the recruitment of the assembly clerk were expected to debate the divisive matter at 2.30 PM.

The house was unusually full with members, some who are notorious for absconding, the evening session for a siesta or having a date with their favorite pastime hobby- exercising their jaws- with Meru vegetations.

The filling the clerk position has been a political hot potato, with some members of the County assembly pushing for the confirming of the current clerk Mohamud Ahmed Santur, while other members are vehemently opposed to the move and want his predecessors who was bundled out prior to be reinstated.

Interestingly, the lucrative and the most superior position after the speaker’s in the County assembly has never being put into competitive bidding and instead has become a jostling game of music chairs between two groups of MCAs.

The debate onto the matter has been postponed twice as the matter is feared to spill blood in the floor of the house, as the jostling and night meeting by the two side getting murky with innocent electorates of Garissa grumbling with thirsty, flash floods and pangs of empty stomachs from Balambala,to Abalatirow, from Hullugho to  Skanska in Modogashe.

Few hours to the silently adjourned crucial session, as MCAs driving in in flashy vehicles jam-packed the squeezing compound of the County assembly as horrified Mama Gulia kept at bay by hawk-eyed security personnel remained behind the perimeter wall peeping as she murmured “Is there “Muraat” ( anything to eat today the house)”???

The clerk issue is expected to come up in the house on Tuesday next.

Garissa is following a trend set by Wajir County where under similar circumstance the endorsement of the County assembly led into chair fight in the house and prolong court battle.

Keep here, as we keep eyes on your leaders.
