DEAL FIRMLY WITH AL-SHABAAB, STATE TOLD

Cross section of leaders from North-Eastern region has urged the government to deal firmly with all form of criminals to ensure that the sanctity of Kenyans lives is restored.

Drawn from the religious groups, business community, peace builders and opinion leaders they described the weekend killing of 28 innocent travelers along Mandera- Nairobi road as act of aggression against the sovereignty of the country an attempt to spark off inter religious intolerant among the Kenyans of different faith affiliations who managed to co-exist harmoniously.

Led by the Supreme council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) vice chairman for North-Eastern region Sheikh Abdullahi Sirat, they call upon the government to desist making hard hitting rhetoric and firmly dealing with anybody engaged any form of criminal activities individually or as an organized group.

“The Muslim leaders under their umbrella Supkem, its affiliates and the entire residents of North-Eastern region condemned the heinous act of murder meant against innocent lives who dedicated their entire lives to serve the people of the region selflessly” 

He added” Islam prohibits any form of harm leave alone killing been meant against fellow human being. Anybody who kills people is not among the Muslim Ummah (society) and they shouldn’t be given the credit to be described as one by anyone”,

Sirat said people of the region, are deeply disturbed by cowardly massacre of men and women who left the comforts of their home and opted to deliver needed services to the people of the region particularly far-flung and insecurity prone Mandera.

Dubat Amey, the national vice chairman of Kenya livestock Market council (KLMC) said the Muslim community all over the world more so those living in counties along the war-Somalia (Mandera, Wajir and Garissa) are hurt by the menace caused by al-Shabaab, who are bent on a dangerous mission of setting up a “flame” of sectarian conflict in the country by selectively targeting people perceived to be non-Muslim in their macabre attacks.

“When a group of criminals stop a bus and sort Kenya communities based on religious line and brutally kill one group (the non-Muslim) their mission is clear. And as country we need to careful not to fall into this dangerous trap, which has being used by some criminals in other countries in other parts of the world to achieve their satanic agenda” he noted.

Quoting a Somali proverb which says that “If one of your eyes is paining you can’t sleep using your other unaffected eye” Amey noted Muslim community in Kenya and particularly in North-Eastern region are truly pained by the frequent killing of innocent fellow Kenyans.

Iman Sigat, the chairperson of Fafi district peace committee urged the government to take charge of the security its people and crash criminals including al-Shabaab which were giving Kenyans sleepless night and taking innocent lives their barbaric indiscriminate attacks on civilians.

“We urge the president to take charge of the security of the country and deal decisively with criminals who are assaulting the country’s sovereignty. The time of talking is now over and we want to see the recurrent attacks on civilians and civil servants stopped urgently” he said.
