Confirming the incidents, head of North eastern
Criminal Investigation Department Musa Yego said the armed men numbering about
five in total confronted police officers on patrol moment after they left their camp in Ant- Shifta, before opening fire on them.
He said police responded with a fire fight, which resulted in heavy fire exchange between the criminal gang and the officers. “After the gun fight that last about twenty minutes, our officers managed to kill of the bandits on the spot, while wounding seriously another” he said while speaking to the Standard in Garissa.

“They shot at our officers in attempted to kill them, but the officers who were alert responded quickly gunning down a gang member and critically wounding his colleague who has, however managed to escape with his gun wounds with others accompanying the deceased,” he said.
The 9.00pm incident (Sunday night) sent panic among the residents of Garissa who has rendered fearful to do any business at night for the fear of being caught the surging indiscriminate killing of a marauding armed bandits, who motive are yet to established by the security agencies.
The detective regional chief said police have also recovered a pistol and spend cartridge from the scene of the confrontation adding that the recovery will help in the police investigation to break into the mysterious of the raising incidents of shot and run in the town, which is a gateway to the North-Eastern region.
He said they believe the deceased and his four colleagues who are still at large are the ones targeting were involved in spate of killings and grenade attacks in the town, which has become insecure after a community policing initiative known as “Jua Jirani” (know you neigbours) which has worked has run into trouble, after a boy who wrestle to arm man who killed a prominent trade in Garissa, was left unassisted in a private hospital.
Yego said, a combined security officers will launch
a massive swoop to flush out the criminals giving people in the town sleepless
nights.

armed people opened fire at them. On the preceding week twelve people were injured after unknown people hurled hand grenade in a fast food kiosk in Bula Punda, Garissa town.
Yego appealed to the residents to share vital information on concerning on suspicious and unknown people sighted in the town to the police noting that the information volunteered will be treated with utmost secret to protect those providing the same.
“We know its few individuals who are hell-bent to cause chaos but if you cooperate with the police we will get rid of them in matter of days,” he added.
