WAJIR GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES FAT REWARD FOR INFORMERS

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said his government will pay salaries to the Kenya Police Reservists (KPR) to supplement the fight against terrorists, who have been carrying out spate of targeted raids in the County in the last few months.

He said, the KPR who were currently helping other agencies of security in the battle against the Somali insurgents lacked motivation and his administration will allocate money to pay them as an incentive to work better.

“My government will allocate money to pay Kenya Police Reservists who provide security at government institutions and installations such us the referral hospital. It is very clear that these people who are attacking installations like the local KPL station are disruptive elements who want to sabotage the progress made by the people of Wajir” He lamented.

Abdullahi said the country was celebrating the auspicious of the national day at a time when the nation and particularly the counties in North-Eastern region were facing insecurity challenges posed by the Somali based militia, despite the strides made in development in the last two years.

He said “Celebrating our statehood on the face of terror threats hovering around us would be impossible and Kenyans must unite to jealously guard their country sovereignty from the threats of criminal elements bend on causing havoc by setting the peace loving Kenya’s community against one another on the flimsy basis of religious affiliations and tribal schisms”,

Governor Abdullahi said the insecurity incidents targeting innocent Kenyans making their living and going about their daily business are aimed at causing intolerance among Kenyans of different faith and tribes by the perpetrators.

He said “The criminal elements involved in these acts are here in Wajir. They live with us and each and every one of us must take his/her responsibility by contributing to the efforts by the security agencies and the leadership of unmasking them so that they face justice”,

The governor promised unspecified rewards to whoever provides accurate information to the government that will help in apprehending criminals behind spates of insecurity incidents in the County and in the country at large.

“To address amicably security issues in the country requires a multi-faceted approach. We must leverage on intelligence and crime investigation to net down criminals. My administration will continue to create opportunities of training and empowering the youth as one way of dissuading them from involvement in any criminal activities” he said


The County chief urged the religious leaders and community elders to strongly come out in condemning the barbaric violence met on a section of Kenyans by terrorists’ elements and ensure that they monitor the movement of their followers and children so as they are not been brainwashed into radicalization ideologies.

The Wajir governor further urge the people from other parts of the country to stay put noting that his administration is working hard around the clock with the security agencies to ensure of their safety stay in the County.


He said the County government has embarked on an expansive program to renovating all unused government quarters to offer civil servants from other areas, who are working in Wajir town a consolidated accommodation, where they can be easily provided with security and also provide a means of transport to and from work stations.

“Our fellow residents of Wajir who come from other parts of this great nation, I would like to urge you not to feel threatened here. My government is working hard with safety approach and has put in place measures to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people who are being targeted by these terrorists”, He assured. 




Abdullahi said despite the county successfully drilling more 35 boreholes to alleviate the water needs of the County residents, many people were denied the precious commodity by cartel that took over the running of boreholes and started charge people exorbitant 20 shillings per twenty liters jerrycans.

He said “My office has received numerous complaints regarding this exploitation and I therefore want to order the department of water and Wajir Water and Sewerage Company to take necessary steps to save the public from these cartels by taking over the  management of this installation”,

The governor noted that his government has started fish farming on a pilot project as mean of introduce diversification of livelihood among the local community, who have traditionally over relayed on the unsustainable animal keeping adding that his administration has also establish 150 solar powered street lights and10 flood lights within Wajir town as one step toward the realization of his 24 hour economy in the County as captured by his campaign blueprint.
