Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has for the first time broke his silence over his impending
impeachment motion in front of the County assembly saying he is not scared by the actions of MCAs who are engaging in retrogressive politics of back stabbing and confrontations.
The governor while addressing a mammoth crowd who turn up to mark Jamhuri Day on Friday said he not ready to be sucked into politics of sideshows played by some political “juvenile” members of the County assembly sine he is determined to foster meaningful development in the county.
“Please don’t distract us with your empty political rhetoric instead of joining us in delivering our promises to those who elected us to our respective positions of leadership. Leaders shouldn’t play unhealthy politics every day,” he said.
The Garissa County becomes the first County in Northern region, where the members’ assembly of County filed a notice of motion to oust the Governor.
The motion which was filed by an MCA from Nathif
Jama backyard cited gross violation of the constitution, naked abuse of the
public procurement and disposal acts as the basis for his impeachment. They
also accused the governor of violating the public finance management act 2012
by award major contractors including road projects without the observation of
the due process.
Jama told MCAs pushing for his removal from office to wait a bit longer until the next general election of 2017 was called for instead of wasting their electorates’ time with piety politicking, while they suppose to engage themselves in meaningful assignments that will better the lives of the residents of Garissa.

“Our people want service delivery, not politics and
I urge these County leaders to put clan and, political affiliations aside, and
join us in moving the county forward for the good of the local people. Anyone who
wants to test their political influence should come to the field come 2017, but
for now am not ready to engage busy bodies politicians” he explained.
However, speaking separately to the media the mover
of the ouster motion to send home Jama Bananey MCA Mohamed Siyad described the
governor’s sentiment as desperate measures to look sympathy from the crowd who
attended the celebration.
“The governor sent delegation of elders and local
MPs to dissuade me to drop the motion, after they noticed that it was been
supported by three quarter of the assembly members. If he is not guilty of the
grounds we are impeaching and he thinks he is popular why is he panicking” he
asked.
He said, the panic stricken executive head has
resorted to unorthodox desperate moves to mobile briefcase civil societies
groups and clan elders to intimidate members from proceeding the ouster motion
after noting it has garnered the required threshold to effect impeachment of
the governor.
“The motion is on its last leg of coming to the
floor of the house for approval. The members are eagerly waiting to adopt it.
The question isn’t whether we precede the impeachment, but when the governor
should leave the office. The members have filed the motion, to the speaker to recall
the house which is on recess now through gazette notice so that we proceed with
motion on Tuesday next week,” He said.
Meanwhile youth in Garissa threatened to petition for the dissolution of the county government if members of the county assembly will go ahead with their impeachment motion against the governor Nathif Jama.
Speaking at Jamhuri day celebration Garissa National youth Council representative Hussein Salat said by impeaching the governor the assembly want to frustrate the executive so that the county lags behind in terms of development in comparison to the rest of the Counties.
The youth leader said they will mobilize the residents and collect signatures to make sure the county government is dissolve in-toto.
“We are the voters and we are bound to suffer if impeachment by the assembly goes through that is why we are telling them that we will collect signatures and dissolve the whole County if they don’t rescind the plot to send home the governor,” he said.
