GARISSA County administration has
launched an ambitious comprehensive childhood development program to be
administered by schools in all the sub-counties.
Governor Nathif Jama has announced
that his administration will ensure to avail resources including provision of
nutritional food and health facilities at schools, noting such favorably
environment will help impart knowledge to new school going children.
He said 180 ECD classrooms will be
built in the county and learning materials put in place in bid to make children’s
foundation established at an early stage.
Jama was speaking at a ceremony to
dispatch 164 ECD teaching assistant that will be posted to all ward
administrative centers.
He said his administration is
committed to promote early childhood education, reminding the teachers that
they are entrusted to take care of tender age school children with delicate
atmosphere it deserves.
Governor Jama also announced Shs 10
million and logistic support to the county education board chaired by career
educationist, Maalim Idris Mohamed Farah. The board members are expected to undertake
monitoring and evaluation of education process in schools.
The County education board chairman
said that, with all this program and support that the county Government has unveiled;
Change has come for younger generation and promised the Governor at the end of
his tenure, childhood Education will be one of the legacies that Governor Nathif
will be remembered.
“I today challenge all 164 ECD
teaching assistants to take greater responsibility to deliver services, remember
Allah will judge you if you failed your position" Mr. Maalim said.
The Governor said that as a county ,
We strongly believe why our KCSE and KCPE results are not likable is because we
have poor ECD and Education framework that gives the much needed foundation to
our boys and girls at an earlier age.
"In order to achieve our
educational goals and promote childhood education, I direct, The County
Executive of education and other county education stakeholders to come up with
a legal framework that will guide and support early childhood education in our County."
Said Jama
In the supplementary budget said the
governor, his administration will recruit 200 more ECD teaching assistant to
improve education standards from the scratch.
Meanwhile, County executive in-charge
of education, Mr. Hussein Hajjir urged the ECD assistant teachers to be good
ambassadors for his ministry and be part of the moving train that will solve
poor education foundation not only in Garissa, but the entire country.
