Hassan Barre elder bro to Majority leaders claims beaten.
An elder brother to Majority leader in the national
assembly Aden Duale has today claimed that security officers have
assaulted him shortly, after they seized him on Sunday night at around 11 pm.
Mr. Hassan
Bare who is also a prominent business in Garissa county allege that officers who
drove in two land cruisers, waylaid him on the main gate of Nomad Hotel, which
is owned by the Bare family.
He said, at the time he was arriving from Nairobi
and was waiting at the gate of the hotel to be opened for him by the night
guard, when the officers in full uniform pounced on him, subdued and bungled him into one of
their land cruiser as another officer took charge of his vehicle.
“The officers pulled him out of his personal
vehicle and forced him to lie on his belly flat along tarmacked Kismayo road,
which passes in front of the hotel before I was blindfolding and then
mercilessly beaten. They stepped all over me while on their official boots”, He claimed.
The businessman displayed to the Frontier Leaks fresh injured
on his thighs and all over his back, which he claimed he sustained from the assaults.
“They had two
land cruiser and they were in full uniform, and wore black balaclavas
to hide their faces, they blinded folded me and started hitting me indiscriminately,
while still lying down just few meters from the gate of the hotel I was to spend,”
He alleged.
Mr. Bare said after the personnel accomplished
their mission of raining blows and kicks on him, they later helped him into one
of their vehicle before they drove him into forest on the peripheries of the
town.
He said “after droving me for about 10 minutes into
bushes which I couldn’t establish because I was blindfolded and tortured for
about five hours they drove me back and left me with the town.
He claimed that he also lost sh.150, 000 which was
in his car at the time of his alleged attack.
“What is the essence of officers hiding their face when claiming to be on official duty, I have already recorded statement with police and I will
pursue the matter through the courts,” he said.
“I suspect the officer wanted to finish me, but luckily
I got saved from their brutal ordeal after the officers beating me received a
call of intervention by a person I suspect was their boss.” He claimed.
The Garissa County assembly members’ leader by the
deputy Abubakar Mohamed Shide and the minority Abdinassir Mohamed said the
cases of security officers abusing local people including security officers
from arms were rampant since the killing of 148 students were killed in a
terror attack, which has lead to the government declare two weeks curfew, which
has since elapsed but not lifted.
The urge the mandate of the team of experts sent to
Garissa by the interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkasseiry to investigate what
has led to Garissa campus attack to also include their probe on the cases of torture
of civilians by the security personnel under aegis of enforcing the
restrictions on night movements in three counties in Northeastern region.
