RELEASE ME MANDERA WEST MP TELLS EMOTIONAL VOTERS

 Mandera west member of parliament Eng. Mohamed Mohamud has welcomed the verdict by the Garre council of elders’, which adopts  rotation of all elective political slots in Mandera County in bid to encourage adequate sharing of leadership positions among various sub-clans.

Addressing a gathering at Banisa town, the two term lawmaker, who was presumed to take from Governor Ali Roba as Mandera county Governor if the post were to go to his Furkesha sub-clan of the larger Quranyua clan, said going against the elders decision was being too dishonest as the issue of rotational leadership was conceived and agreed upon by the community in 2011.

 The MP who is the brain behind the formation of the strong 20 member council in early 2011 said any leader who is worth his salt must respect any political decision, which will promote harmony and reduce tension related with scrambling for political positions among the electorates.

  “I therefore wholeheartedly accept the verdict of the Coe and urge everyone else to do so. Rest assured, refusal to accept will be futile.  Fully accept the verdict of the elders. Before the Banisa meeting, I had set my eyes on the gubernatorial seat, should the seat come to my sub clan. And since it did not come to our side where I had chance to offer my candidature, then I will support whoever is anointed for the position”, He said.

 The legislator said: “I therefore wholeheartedly accept the verdict of the council of elders and urge everyone else to do so. Rest assured, refusal to accept the elders’ verdict will be futile undertaking”,

Eng. Mohamed Mohamud is career public servant who held several positions in different political reign. He was an assistant minister in the grand coalition government. He also served as a permanent secretary to various ministries and ambassador to different countries.

 Eng. Mohamed, who  however, had another chance to retain his current position as his sub-clan retained to fill the parliamentary seat for Mandera West constituency told his emotional supporters, that he will not defend his seat and advised them to provide other names to the council of elders for consideration to fill his seat.

He added: “I still have an opportunity to defend my current parliamentary seat through the approval of my sub-clan, but I had opted to give others a chance to serve the people of Mandera West. I’m asking you as my constituents to release me and look for another candidate to take the leadership mantle from me”,

The former assistant minister of Energy in grand coalition government thanked the people of Mandera West for the support they accorded to him as their area MP for two consecutive terms noting that is an indication that they have unwavering confidence in his leadership.

He said: “I wish the people of Mandera west and the entire Mandera County well. I also wish the incoming leaders well and assure them of my unreserved support. I will at the moment continue discharging my duties as an MP and national leader until the end of my term”,
